Statin has generated a lot of debates due to a report published by Italian scientists in the Journal Of Sexual Medicine in April 2010 stating that men who are placed on drugs containing Statins stand a risk of erectile dysfunction.
Statin as we know is a component used in drugs that help to reduce the blood level of cholesterol in order to reduce the risk of diabetes and heart attack. We also know that cholesterol and diabetes are among the “nastiest” causes of erectile dysfunction. How then can Statins cause ED?
This is in fact what has been causing controversies. A drug that can help to bring down the effects of factors that lead to impotence is now a potential cause on itself.
Statins Reduce Testosterone Production
In January 2014 scientists confirmed that Statins can really cause erectile dysfunction. Their findings are published in Reproductive Toxicology. Although the research and tests were carried out on rats yet the scientists claim there is an indication that it can affect humans too.
- 1. Statins cause significant reductions in LH-stimulated testosterone production by rat Leydig cells; possible human relevance.
- 2. Statin induced inhibition in testosterone production was bypassed by providing pregnenolone or progesterone.
- 3. Bypassing the site of action with pregnenolone resulted in greater LH stimulated testosterone production than progesterone.
- 4. LH responsiveness of Leydig cells was only maintained when progesterone was used to bypass the site of action.
The FDA Warning!
On January 31, 2014 FDA updated their report about the use of drugs containing Statins advising millions of Americans who use Statins based drugs as well as health professionals to take caution.
Among the warnings are those that are related to damages to the liver, memory loss and a host of other side effects. The good news however is that the effects are reversible as soon as the patient stops taking the drugs. We strongly advise you read the FDA report.
If you take careful note you will know that all those drugs that are based on Statins are synthetic drugs and there is nothing natural in them.
This post is another confirmation that natural production of testosterone is by far the most effective and the safest.
There has not been any report of negative side effects or health risks from people/men using herbal products that help to increase testosterone levels nor from those who have been using herbal cholesterol control supplements.
Herbal Products That Increase Testosterone Levels
Interestingly all herbal products for male sexual enhancement can naturally increase testosterone levels but we suggest a few of them:
